Dear CSR Shanghai and Auto Components Working Group Community Members,
On November 06, 2018, the European Union Chamber of Commerce CSR Forum in Shanghai in collaboration with Drive Sustainability (DS) - a partnership between 10 global automotive companies - will host an Exchange Meeting for automotive manufacturers (OEMs) and their Tier 1 suppliers to explore how to implement supply chain sustainability beyond Tier 1 in China.
The objective of Drive Sustainability is to enhance sustainability throughout the automotive supply chain by promoting a common approach within the industry and to achieve long-lasting impact and meaningful actions at the local level by engaging and working together with key local stakeholders, suppliers as well as other sectors. Since its inception, Drive Sustainability has been organising multiple supplier events in locations such as Turkey, China, India, South Africa etc. One of the key learnings for the group is that often the core sustainability issues are located beyond Tier 1. In China, many sustainability issues occur at the third or fourth layers of the supply chain. To successfully address the key challenge of implementing sustainability beyond tier 1, close collaboration between OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers is crucial.
Therefore, the Exchange Meeting has two objectives:
1. Present Drive Sustainability – the Automotive Partnership and its activities, tools and strategic directions
2. Explore how the OEMs of Drive Sustainability and their Tier 1 suppliers can have a common approach to improve supply chain sustainability beyond Tier 1
