Revisiting the Value of Corporate Philanthropy in Emerging Economies
Corporate philanthropy, the act of a corporation promoting stakeholder welfare through donations of funds or time, has historically been considered to be the one of the most common CSR business practices globally. However, due to increasing cross-cultural dialogue about the relationship between corporate philanthropy and CSR, it is appropriate to revisit these concepts from a strategic viewpoint. In emerging economies like China and India, both with burgeoning activity in the field of corporate philanthropy, the need for a thorough analysis of the strategic value and potential sustainability of this trend is immediate if the good intentions of these corporations are to be efficacious long-term.

At this seminar, you will hear the insights of a cutting-edge research project, “Corporate Philanthropy Index for China and India”, which has developed a set of comprehensive indicators for evaluating corporate philanthropic contributions, both quantitatively and qualitatively, regarding their accountability, transparency, sustainability, efficiency and effectiveness in contributing to the common good of Chinese and Indian societies.

About the speakers:
Dr. Stephan Rothlin
Dr. Stephan Rothlin is CEO and Founder of Rothlin International Management Consulting Co. Ltd. in Beijing and Hong Kong. Since his relocation to Beijing in 1998, he has become a sought-after guest lecturer in international business ethics, having taught at various universities throughout Asia including Renmin University, Peking University, and Tsinghua University in Beijing, INSEAD Business School in Singapore, and the LIBA Business School and Xavier Institute for Management Research in India.
Prof. Zhou Shoujin
Prof. Zhou Shoujin is Associate Professor of International College for Chinese Studies, Peking University (PKU).He has been associated with research on business ethics and corporate philanthropy in China for many years, and holds an expertise in traditional Chinese values and their contemporary impact.
