When President Xi Jinping visited Shanghai in May 2014, he encouraged the city to put innovation at the heart of its development strategy with a global perspective. Since then, the Shanghai Municipal Government has launched several initiatives to promote home-grown innovation in Shanghai’s development strategy in 2015. Shanghai Mayor, Yang Xiong, announced in February 2015 at the annual meeting of the municipal legislature that the city will aim at becoming an international centre for technological innovation and change its growth model from investment-driven to innovation-driven.
European companies in Shanghai have seen this potential and invested heavily in R&D Centres and operations, and they have become an essential part of the existing innovation eco-system of the Yangtze River Delta. They will play an instrumental role to ensure the success of this innovation-driven policy initiated by the authorities.
On 27th March, members of the European Chamber will have the exclusive opportunity to meet and exchange with high-ranking representatives of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, the Shanghai Commission of Commerce and the Shanghai Science & Technology Commission who will introduce the various initiatives taken by the Government to transform Shanghai into an international innovation centre. It will be a unique opportunity for European companies to get first-hand information, present their views on the existing innovation environment the city proposes, its limits and bottlenecks that exist as well as their concrete recommendations for Shanghai to fully achieve its innovation potential.
Please note that to ensure productive exchange between all the participants, the number of seats for this event will be limited.
