The European Chamber of Commerce in China is delighted to invite you to a seminar on cooperation between European companies and Universities in China on 22nd April 2014 at Kempinski Hotel.
With China’s labour market getting more and more competitive, companies are increasingly looking into cooperation with universities. Setting up and develop successful R&D cooperation projects with universities and the academic world has become a standard practice for companies all over the world. It ensure strong rooting of the R&D with a specific market, takes advantage of different scientific ideas, establish a network of potential future employees and usually enjoys strong support from the government and local authorities. However and despite of the importance of the Chinese market, companies have to overcome significant challenges in order to successfully develop these kind of partnerships in China, and especially in Beijing.
Our speakers will present the overall status and trends of the current R&D cooperation between European companies and China, and focus on concrete stories and presentation of successful R&D cooperation between multinational companies and Beijing Universities.

Dr. Pierre Vialettes
Dr. Pierre VIALETTES graduated from the Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Tarbes (ENIT) in South West of France. In 2005, he obtained his Ph.D. degree from Supaero in Toulouse. His thesis dealt with the experimental and
numerical simulation of stratospheric balloons for the French National Space Agency, CNES, and for the French National Aerospace Research Office, ONERA.
From 2006 to 2008, Dr. VIALETTES performed post-doctoral research at the institute of Solid Mechanics of the School Of Aerospace of Tsinghua University, on projects sponsored by the Chinese government and by EADS,the largest aerospace company in Europe. His most recent research involved the development of numerical models to simulate the deployment of inflatable structures and the experimental and numerical identification of stratospheric balloon materials.
Since 2008, Dr. VIALETTES is R&T manager for EADS in China. As the representative in China of EADS Innovation Works, he is in charge of the follow-up of ongoing R&D projects of EADS Group companies across Chinese institutions. In 2011, he has been appointed head of Innovation Works North Asia,covering China, South Korea and Japan.
He also defines and allocates potential sources of funding to projects of interest to Airbus Group (former EADS) like Airbus, Airbus Helicopters, and Airbus Defence and Space in North Asia.
Ms. Ulrike Tagscherer
Ms. Ulrike Tagscherer
Dr. Ulrike Tagscherer studied geography, political sciences and modern Chinese at Heidelberg University, and received her doctoral degree in 1999. She joined Fraunhofer Headquarters in 2000 as Manager Asia and became Director International Business Development Asia in 2004. In 2008 she entered the Institute of Policy and Management of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS IPM) as an Integrated Expert for strengthening the cooperation between Fraunhofer ISI and CAS IPM and jointly conducting research projects. She joined the newly established Joint Center for Innovation Research (CAS IPM and Fraunhofer ISI) in China in 2013 on behalf of Fraunhofer ISI. Her research focus lies on national systems of innovation, regional and sectoral systems of innovation, S&T and innovation policy, industry-science linkages, and R&D activities of multinational companies in China.

Dr. Wu Wenping, PhD, Senior Director for R&D, Novozymes (China) Investment Co. Ltd.
Dr. Wu Wenping has been working for Novozymes for 15 years; he has been focused on the R&D field in different areas. Dr. Wu Wenping has obtained a Doctor Degree of Philosophy (PhD) in Biology/Biological Sciences from Royal Holloway, U. of London.

Jing-Shan Hu obtained her BS degree in Biochemistry from Peking Univ, PhD degree from Univ. of Texas at MD Anderson Cancer Center, post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School. She started her career as a Scientist of Protein Therapeutics at Human Genome Sciences, followed by as Toxicogenomics/Pharmacogenomics Manager at Affymetrix, then at Roche Pharmaceuticals at Palo Alto as Head of Functional Biology leading the effort of using new technologies to evaluate new targets and compounds, following Research leader of Toxicogenomics. She subsequently joined Merck & Co as Director of Licensing & External Research (Greater China) in January 2008, responsible for identifying and developing opportunities for licensing and collaboration in Great China. She joined Bayer Healthcare in Oct 2011 as VP and Head of Global Drug Discovery Innovation Center China located in Beijing, responsible for building and developing opportunities for partnership between R&D organizations in China with Bayer Global Drug Discovery.
