In September 2023, the National Development and Reform Commission's (NDRC’s) Institute of Economic System and Management released the " Study Report on the Recycling Mode of Low-Value Recyclables in Xiamen City" (hereinafter referred to as the report). The report shows that there are 150,000 tonnes of "low-value wastes" turned into resources in Xiamen City, representing economic value of over 135 million yuan. The recycling of these low-value plastics recyclables can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 435,000 tonnes per year. For more details, please find attached the report.

The Environment Working Group is pleased to invite you to its upcoming meeting on a report interpretation on low-value recyclables in Xiamen City, on Monday 22^nd April 14:30-15:30. During the meeting, Mr Zhang Deyuan (张德元), Circular Economy Research Department Director, Institute of Economic System and Management of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and the lead author of the report, will share the main findings of the report and have discussions with the members regarding recycling of low-value wastes including plastics, fibre, glass and paper.

The second part of the meeting is a panel discussion on topics including the policy and industrial updates on China’s recycling on waste plastics, textile and fibre, and glasses. The working group is honoured to invite Ms Wang Lin (王琳), Director, Department of Integrated Use of Resources, China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), Mr Zhang Min (张敏), Executive Secretary General, Specialised Committee on Urban Resource Recycling, China Association of Circular Economy (CACE), and Mr Zhang Songchen (张松臣), Secretary General, Petrochemical Specialised Committee, China Association of Circular Economy (CACE), as panellists for the discussion.
