Dear Members of Food and Beverage Working Group,
The European Chamber has the pleasure to invite you to the next meeting of the Food and Beverage WG on 30th May 2005 at 6:00 pm at the European Chamber Office.
Agenda:
At 6:00 pm: Discussion on Position Paper 2005. Feel free to email your input or any specific issues you would like to address during discussion ahead of time. At 6:30 pm: Public Awareness and Perception of GM-Good in China: Survey Results and Market Reactions, presentation by Mr Ma Tienjie from Greenpeace and Ms. Huang Jingyan from IPSOS
In December 2004 a public survey was conducted by IPSOS on behalf of GreenPeace in order to measure Chinese consumers??awareness of Genetically Modified Food. The survey was carried out in three major cities in China (Beijing, Shanghai, GuangZhou). Results show that little more than half of the Chinese population in those cities are aware of the potential dangers that GM Food poses on health.
GeneScan a research institute that regularly tests food samples world wide found China grown genetically modified rice on the Chinese market. However, European companies do have Non-GM policies but Chinese regulations need more clarification. GreenPeace and supporters are fighting to increse public awareness of this issue and to improve regulations in China and world wide.
Kindly confirm your participation to the meeting at kignacz@euccc.com.cn no later than Monday, 30th May 2005, noon.
