Benjamin Morgan Sanjurjo has worked 18 years in international journalism, communications and project management and is currently managing partner at Equus Global Associates, a firm focused on promoting international collaboration and communications between Asia, Europe and the Americas.
Previously he was senior director for global public affairs firm APCO Worldwide in Shanghai and Ulaan Baatar and was a staff journalist at the global news group Agence France-Presse (AFP), reporting on major Asia and Middle Eastern affairs.
He served as AFP Shanghai bureau chief covering major news events including the WTO negotiations in Hong Kong, the Sichuan earthquake, unrest in Tibet, the Burma crisis of 2007, and the SARS outbreaks. He also worked in the Middle East, reporting on the Iraq war. In New York he was a business and markets reporter.
During his time at APCO Worldwide, he focused on crisis and issue management, media relations and spokesperson training for multinational and government clients in China and Mongolia.
Benjamin came to China in 1996 as part of Princeton-in-Asia’s internship programme, where he lectured at universities in Harbin and Beijing. He then joined Voice of America in Beijing.
A graduate of the University of Chicago and Columbia University, he is proficient in Chinese, English and Spanish and has a good working knowledge of French.
