European Chamber Co-organised the 2023 China-Europe Offshore Renewables Development & Cooperation Forum in Yancheng, Jiangsu

The 2023 China-Europe Offshore Renewables Development & Cooperation Forum was successfully hosted on 20-22 November by China Renewable Energy Engineering InstituteEuropean Union Chamber of Commerce in China and Yancheng Municipal People’s Government, with support of China's National Energy Administration and Jiangsu Provincial People's Government. More than 300 guests from European and Chinese energy authorities, consulates and embassies, leading companies across the supply chain, as well as research institutes, gathered in Yancheng, the "No.1 city of offshore renewables in China," to jointly explore the extensive potential for collaboration.

Miguel Montoya, Vice President of the European Chamber, gave an opening remark at the main forum. He said that Europe and China share a common mission in accelerating energy transition, ensuring energy security and achieving carbon neutrality. Both sides hope to maintain energy policy dialogue between governments, while promoting practical cooperation in industry and joint R&D. The European Chamber, and its energy working group, will continue to serve as a central platform for deepening exchanges between Chinese and European energy players.

Ren JingdongVice Administrator of China's National Energy Administration; Fu CongAmbassador of China to the European Union; Marjo Crompvoets, Consul General of the Netherlands Consulate General in Shanghai; Lise Nordgaard, Consul General of the Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai; WANG Bin, General Manager of Power Construction Corporation of China; and ZHOU Bin, Party Secretary of Yancheng Municipal People’s Government, also delivered speeches at the main forum. A public solicitation for pilot and demonstration projects proposals on offshore solar, offshore energy island and high penetration of renewables was released, while 25 major projects, with a total value of 29.48 billion yuan, were signed.

In the afternoon, 6 sub-forums focusing on Offshore Wind and Solar, Zero-carbon Industrial Park, Energy Storage, Hydrogen, Building of a New Power Industry, and Green Electricity & Renewables Certificate ran in parallel. Zhonghua Xu, National Chair of the European Chamber Energy Working Group, hosted the Hydrogen sub-forum; and Clément LixVice Chair of the Energy Working Group, joined roundtable 2 of the Green Electricity sub-forum: Navigating Paths and Strategies for Corporate Sustainable Development — The Driving Role of Green Power Consumption. Other member companies such as BASF, Bureau Veritas, Covestro, Crowcon, DNV, EDF Renewables, Enel Group, Iraeta Energy Equipment, LSEG, Maersk, PowerCell Fuel Cell, TÜV SÜD, etc. also actively took part in the discussions.
