China Centre for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE)--Dell Global Government Affairs and Public Policy Roundtable

 On 13th November, a delegation of European Chamber was invited to the China Centre for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE)-Dell Global Government Affairs and Public Policy Roundtable. At the event, the Chamber representative Michelle Zhang and Kevin Gao presented European Business in China Position Paper 2017/2018 to Vice President Wei Jianguo.

In the first session, Professor Xu represented the Development Research Centre of the State Council gave a presentation on the transition, challenges and prospect of China’s economy. He confirmed the progress China has achieved in boosting domestic demand, stabilizing employment and adjusting industrial structure, but also stated the challenges caused by the US-China Trade Conflicts.

The second session included two panel discussions. The first panel discussion focused on China’s economy and the status quo of the Global economy. Mr. Kang Yong, Chief Economist from KPMG China, represented the European Chamber and joined the discussion, in which he pointed out external and internal challenges that China was facing nowadays. Internally, deleverage created barriers for Small and Media Enterprises (SMEs) to raise funds; externally, the US-China Trade Conflicts would be a long-term situation which might require China to be fully prepared to tackle the problems. The second panel was hosted by the representatives from Dell Government Affairs team. The representatives and the former Director of Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, MOFCOM Mr. Huo Jianguo joined the discussion. The discussion was about the US Mid-term election, Europe’s role in US-China relations, and how these factors will influence the global trade and industrial chain.

The Q&A session covers questions concerning the China International Import Expo (CIIE), the upcoming G20 summit in Argentina and China’s involvement in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ASEAN countries.
