Meeting with Shanghai Municipal Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau on Food Contact Materials Standards and Practice

To better understand China’s food contact materials standards as well as their impact on European business, the European Chamber has been delighted to receive Mr. Li Sanying, Deputy Director, Special Product Quality Supervision and Management Division, Shanghai Municipal Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau (上海市质量技术监督局特定产品质量监督管理处李三营副处长), to join an open discussion with members and share his insight on the development, applicability and implementation of China’s FCMs standards. Members were kindly invited to share their comments and raise their questions on related issues.

The European Chamber Vice Chair of the Agriculture, Food and Beverage Working Group, Ms. April Wang, commenced this meeting by welcoming Mr. Li Sanying, Deputy Director, Special Product Quality Supervision Division, Shanghai Municipal Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau, and briefly introducing the major updates to China’s Food Contact Materials (FCMs) regulatory framework.

Before opening the Q&A session with the attending Agriculture, Food and Beverage, Petrochemicals, Chemicals and Refining and Standards and Conformity Assessment Working Group members, Mr. Li Sanying has offered a brief presentation on the current system of standards at the national and Shanghai level, as well as on the latest changes to the FCMs standards and the main duties and roles of the Shanghai Municipal Quality Supervision Bureau. After the presentation, members raised their questions on various aspects of the implementation of the new FCMs policies updates, which Mr. Li Sanying has answered promptly.

The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude on both sides for organising this meeting and with calls for continuing the dialogue between the Shanghai Municipal Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau and the Chamber.
