Chamber Stresses Importance of Circular Economy to NDRC

 

Chamber National Vice Chair of Environment Working Group, Dr Christoph Schrempp, commenced this meeting by welcoming Mr Lu Dongsen, Director of Division of Circular Economy, Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and emphasizing the significance of circular economy and sustainable approach for European business in China. Director Lu divided his presentation into five sectors, including the definition and scope of circular economy in China, three development phases, current legal framework, primary directions for future reform on circular economy and recent key tasks. To better understand the role of European business in developing circular economy in China, two member representatives, Mr Jet Chang, Vice President of TOMRA China and Mr Zhang Xiaobo, Manager for Strategy and Corporate Affairs of Veolia China shared their successful practice and cases of circular economy in both Europe and China. A Q&A session was followed subsequently. 

This meeting concluded with Dr Christoph Schrempp, presenting the European Chamber Position Paper 2017/2018 and the Business Confidence Survey 2018 to Director Lu and the hope of continuing frequent dialogues between NDRC and the Chamber on the topic of circular economy in the future.
