Meeting with Mr. Hololei, Director-General of DG MOVE, European Commission on Recent Development of Logistics Industry in China

In the meeting, representatives of the European Chamber Logistics Working Group and International Liner Shipping Sub-Working Group briefed Mr. Henrik Hololei, Director-General of DG MOVE, European Commission, about recent development and regulatory environment for logistics industry, particularly for shipping industry and express delivery services (EDS).

Mr. Tony Chen, National Chair of Logistics Working Group introduced that international EDS companies still face regulatory barriers such as unequal licensing requirements as well as increasing competition from Chinese domestic EDS companies. However, he maintained that there still exist market opportunity in China given the world leading E-commerce market and improving infrastructure.

Senior representatives from International Liner Shipping Sub-Working Group briefed Mr. Hololei about the recent development of container shipping market, surcharges filing as well as the longstanding issue about international relay. Shipping industry is one of the few industries that European companies hold an absolute leading position, with 4 of the top 5 companies being European. It is important that Europe and China maintain dialogues at all levels to ensure fair competition.

Mr. Hololei thanked for the briefings from the European Chamber member companies and welcomed any future inputs that may contribute to a level play field for European logistics companies in China.
