Dear Intellectual Property Rights Working Group (IPR WG) Members,
The Intellectual Property Rights Working Group is delighted to invite you to the first WG meeting of the new year. During this kick-off meeting, we will review the past activities of the WG, as well as discuss about WG priorities in 2019. Members are encouraged to join the discussion and provide input on the WG’s 2019 activities, advocacy and Position Paper priorities.
With this occasion, the 2019 Intellectual Property Rights Working Group Chairs election will be held. The Chair and Vice Chairs play a crucial role in driving the WG, having a leadership role in the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to Chinese and European government authorities and coordinating WG meetings and other activities.
Should you wish to put your name forward for the Chairs election or nominate a candidate, please send a short biography and a motivation letter, stating whether you intend to run for Chair or Vice Chair and your plans to promote the working group to Ms. Rachel Chen in South China at rchen@europeanchamber.com.cn by Friday, 22nd March 2019, COB.
The meeting will be held simultaneously in Shanghai, Beijing and South China via video conference system on Friday, 29th March 2019, from 09:00 to 11:00.

Chairs Election Policy:
In accordance with European Chamber internal guidelines, a separate email will be sent to Working Group members prior to the election, with the biographies and motivation letters of all candidates attached. Regarding the elections voting procedure, there will be one vote per company, which must be conducted in person at the WG meeting after each candidate has had the opportunity to give a short speech on why they would like to run for election. The duration of the term for both Chairs and Vice Chairs is one year. All elected Chairpersons must sign the attached Code of Conduct, following election. To familiarise yourself with the Code of Conduct and responsibilities as Chairs, please refer to the attached Starter Kit.
We encourage as many of our members as possible to attend the meeting to have their say in the leadership and representation of the IPR WG in the year ahead.

Ms. Shengtao Hu
Ms. Shengtao Hu
Shengtao Hu currently works as Director IPR Policy at Ericsson since January 2017, following three years for APAC public affairs in a US based world leading company. Prior to joining the private sector, Shengtao spent more than one decade with Ministry of Commerce of China. She was intensively engaged in the bilateral and multilateral negotiations on IPR issues, Free Trade Agreements and investment treaties as well as the relevant domestic legislative work. She has obtained tremendous experience in public administration and international negotiations. Shengtao also served as a diplomat for two years at the Chinese Embassy in the US, responsible for bilateral governmental programs in IP and antitrust areas.
Shengtao got her bachelor degree from the Law School, Wu Han University and Master Degree of International Economic Law from China University of Political Science and Law. She passed the PRC Bar Exam during her school years.
Shengtao is a Guest Professor at the Law School of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Arbitrator of Shenzhen Court of International Commission.
