On 20th July 2017, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published the ‘New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan’ . The plan outlines China’s ambition to become a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) by 2030, with a domestic AI industry worth in excess of $ 150 billion.
At the European Chamber’s inaugural Artificial Intelligence Conference on 16th November 2017, an array of speakers from government, academia and industry will discuss current AI trends in research, such as deep learning and machine learning, and in products, such as virtual private assistants, chatbots and connected cars.

Philipp Barth is the Head of the CONNECT Section at the EU Delegation to China, representing the European Commission's Directorate-General CONNECT (Communications Networks, Content & Technology) and with a policy dossier including RDI cooperation, market access questions in the ICT sector as well as Internet Governance. Before taking up duty in Beijing he worked at DG CONNECT in Brussels focusing in particular on policy around Smart Cities and was involved in the set-up of an Innovation Partnership and a Horizon 2020 Focus Area on this topic. His background prior to joining the Commission was in strategy consulting in the GSA's ICT and telecoms sectors. His university education was at Cambridge (Peterhouse and St John's College) in philosophy.

Daniel Schneegass is project manager in the research group Data Analytics for Verticals at Siemens Ltd. China. The department is part of the global technology field responsible for data analytics and artificial intelligence, which exists for over 20 years and operates worldwide. Daniel Schneegass is with Siemens for over 10 years. He has been focusing on different projects and application fields in data analysis and data science including power generation, transmission and distribution, industrial applications, analytical CRM, business administration, financial services, project business, and e-discovery. He has been working in research, internal audit, and CRM. He graduated from the University of Luebeck in Germany in computer science.

Denis Depoux began his career in China in 1993 with French energy giant EDF before entering the management consulting industry. In 2001, Depoux joined Roland Berger, focusing on the energy and environmental sectors, and sharing his strong consulting expertise and rich industry experience in the US, Europe and Asia.
Depoux has been actively supporting the firm's Greater China operations since 2007. Since moving to Shanghai in 2015, he has contributed a lot to the transformation towards the new Roland Berger in this region. For Roland Berger Greater China, he has been committedly overseeing a wide variety of Competence Centers. In 2020, Denis was elected Managing Director and has been devoted to the management of Roland Berger's global affairs.
In the energy and utilities sector, Depoux has supported the transformation of major European players throughout the energy market's transition facing a more liberalized and competitive market. He has made extensive contributions in the areas of new products and services, the development of wholesale-market trading, risk management, the development of energy services, etc. He has also advised on several major mergers of European energy players and supported the expansion of electricity and natural-gas players into Europe, the Americas and Asia. More recently, Depoux has supported European and Asian energy players in addressing challenges raised by the trends toward low-carbon energy, energy efficiency, decentralized energy generation and the Internet of energy.
Beyond the energy sector, Depoux has extensive experience in performance and operations improvement, operational and G&A cost reduction, purchasing process transformation, screening, commercial and strategic due diligence for acquisition targets, post-merger integration and organization and governance.
Depoux is a key speaker at top-level forums in Asia, including the Boao Forum for Asia, World Knowledge Forum and China Development Forum. As one of the leading foreign experts working in China, he was invited to a New Year meeting with Chinese Premier to discuss the nation's development. Besides, Depoux often shares his insights on trendy topics both inside and outside China by taking interviews and writing articles for mainstream media channels, including People's Daily, CCTV and Caijing.

Elvie Lahournere is a Senior Consultant in Roland Berger's Digital Competence Center, based in Beijing.
Elvie's expertise focuses on digitalization and tech development in China especially in regards with industrial applications and impact on industry development. Elvie has supported industrial players in A&D and automotive sector in their China strategy and China innovation trends.
She has also conducted several learning expeditions on innovation ecosystem in China for European players.
Prior to Roland Berger, Elvie has worked as engineer at Airbus responsible for supply chain development in Europe and Asia. She also set up engineering consultancy branch in Beijing working with local A&D, automotive and IT players.
In parallel in 2015, Elvie has co-founded and lead a digital ecosystem in Beijing called "French Tech" regrouping nearly 350 members from startups, incubators, accelerators, corporate and VC/funds. These ecosystem aims to promote innovation in China and bridge cross border initiatives with tech conferences and international summit presence (GMIC, CES Shanghai).
Elvie hold a Master degree in mechanical engineering and industrial management from Concordia University (Canada) and Supmeca Paris.

Dr Xuening Wu is the Chief Data Scientist of SAP Innovation Center Innovation Valley, aa guest lecturer at Fudan University for its postgraduate course “Data-driven AI”, a member of Yicai’s ‘Data Science 50’, an openSAP lecturer, as well as a lecturer of the Key Teacher Training Course of the Higher Education Commission of the Ministry of Education, and Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the University of International Business and Economics. He is dedicated to the research and application of artificial intelligence algorithms, and has extensive experience in the use of big data for product and business model innovation in many industries such as retail, finance, manufacturing, medical, and smart cities. Dr Wu is also the author of the book ‘SAP Enterprise Machine Learning’, published by Tsinghua University Press.

Sam started his career at 4A agency as a marketing strategy consultant. Prior to work in Baidu, Sam possessed 2+ years experience in digital advertising planning and client management. Equipped with Insightful knowledge of digital marketing solutions in Chinese market, and have planned and executed major advertising campaigns for global MNCs demonstrating his solid digital planning and execution capabilities.

Dr. Sören Schwertfeger is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at ShanghaiTech University, where he joined its School of Information Science and Technology in August 2014. He graduated with a Diploma (German equivalent of the Master) in Computer Science in 2005 from the University of Bremen in Germany. In 2012 he received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Jacobs University Bremen. Between 2012 and
2014 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Robotics Group of Prof. Andreas Birk at the Jacobs University Bremen. In 2010 Dr. Schwertfeger was a guest researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA, and in 2015 he spend two months as a visiting researcher at University of California, Berkeley, USA.
His research interest is in robotics, especially in intelligent functions for mobile robots. Besides his work on map evaluation, Dr. Schwertfeger also worked and published on mapping, object detection and robot autonomy. He successfully participated in many robot competitions, both as team member and as judge and organizer. Dr. Schwertfeger was the general chair of the 2017 IEEE International Symposium on Safety, Security, and Rescue Robotics (SSRR). He is an associate editor of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine and a guest editor for a special issue on SSRR in the Journal of Field Robotics as well as a guest editor for an IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems special issue on Introspective Methods for Reliable Autonomy.
