Blockchain may have gained notoriety as the technology that provides the infrastructure for Bitcoin, but more than that, as a chain of linked data blocks, blockchain is playing a bigger role in business, where MNCs and SMEs can utilise to simplify their business processes in order to keep up with the fast pace of today's ever-changing digital world. How can companies involve new technologies such as blockchain into their daily operations and benefit from it?
The European Chamber is delighted to invite speakers from Alibaba, EY Wavespace and TekID, to provide participants with insights on how blockchain is changing the way businesses do business and practical case studies on how companies can utilise blockchain and other new technologies in better protecting their intellectual property rights and manage their supply chain. This seminar will focus on how companies can secure evidence with a new method of notarisation and trace the origins of their goods to reduce counterfeiting using digital tools developed by Alipay and Ant Financial. Our speakers will also discuss the practical examples of how to apply blockchain to solve business challenges, such as drug and vaccine traceability, asset life cycle management and network procurement.

Speakers
Mr. Mick Ryan
Mr. Mick Ryan
Mick’s recent focus has been on developing a special cooperation program for Chinese and foreign brands, the Alibaba Anti-Counterfeiting Alliance (AACA). The AACA involves commitments and undertakings between Alibaba and brands to tackle IP challenges together in partnership, including finding new and innovative ways to work offline with law enforcement and the courts, using big data to strengthen proactive take downs (by Alibaba), and joint education of consumer groups and merchants. The AACA also convenes its membership into Industry Working Groups (IWGs), in order to pool resources and expertise for industry-wide initiatives, as well as to enable sharing of the latest IP trends and insights between brands.
Prior to joining Alibaba, Mick was Director of Business Environment, and Head of IP, at the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), a body funded jointly by British government and industry. Mick led a team of consultants who supported UK rights owners with development and execution of IP protection and enforcement strategies in China. As part of this, Mick led a cooperation program on IP between UK industry and Chinese Internet companies, including Alibaba, and other e-commerce and social media companies. Mick’s team also provided a platform to improve dialogue for UK brands with various Chinese government departments and law enforcement bodies, and executed projects to enhance exchanges between UK and Chinese judiciary and academics.
