Driven by China’s booming e-commerce platforms there are few sectors that have encountered as much disruption in recent years as retail. The retailers that have had most success in meeting the challenges brought by these dominant e-commerce platforms have moved beyond classic brick-and-mortar operations, adopting technology driven business models that effectively create synergy between online and offline sales channels.
To explain how the development of such multichannel sales format works in practice, the European Chamber is delighted to welcome Robin Trebbe, Managing Director for China & Asia Pacific at leading sports retailer INTERSPORT. Operating 24 stores across 7 provinces in China, including a new co-branded store with Alibaba's Tmall, Tmall x Intersport, Trebbe will explain how INTERSPORT has adapted to the ‘new retail’ era in order to ride the sports and fitness wave that continues to sweep across China (the athletic fashion sector in China is currently seeing annual sales growth of 9%).
Trebbe will be joined by Maarten Roos and Koen Naber who will discuss some of the practical difficulties and legal challenges companies face when setting up and expanding their online sales operations in China. Naber and Roos and will share the key factors that have contributed to their clients success in this area and outline the trends that their team predict will define China’s retail sector over the next couple of years.
