As China's economy has shifted from the world's factory to the world's mall, and as China's consumers have been lured into a constant stream of e-commerce promotions and take away lunches, the issue of waste has become a growing public debate as as Chinese cities struggle to keep up with the growing amount of waste, it is clear that this has become an issue that cannot be neglected. Particularly, for the industries and brands that are being linked to these wastes.
The European Chamber is delighted to invite Richard Brubaker, founder of Collective Responsibility, to speak about their recent research on Shanghai's informal waste system and how they work with individuals and companies on waste reduction.
During this lunch and learn session, participants will gain a greater understanding of this important issue and the topics below will be covered:
- How is waste managed, formally and informally, in China?
- What are the realities of recycling, and what is the business case for circular economy initiatives (e.g. product takeback programs)?
- How can firms engage their stakeholders internally and externally in participating in programs and building a brand?
- What are the best practices for individuals to start leading a waste free lifestyle in China?
