On 23rd February, the European Commission published a proposal for a Directive on Sustainable Corporate Governance. The European Chamber has invited Ms Orsolya Csorba, Counsellor for Competition, Justice and Consumer Policy at the Delegation of the European Union to China to provide a debriefing on the Commission’s proposal. Ms Csorba will provide the debriefing onsite in Beijing on Thursday, 31st March from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. Members wishing to attend online will be provided a Zoom link.

The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), which attracted worldwide attention, closed in Glasgow, UK, in the evening of 13th November local time. After nearly two weeks of debates and negotiations on how to tackle climate change in joint efforts, around 200 countries adopted the Glasgow Climate Pact and made promises for further actions. The European Chamber welcomes a group of experts from SinoCarbon, ICF and Greenovation Hub to share the latest information from the conference, examine the impact of the COP26 outcomes on businesses and the civil society, as well as the consequences on industries in the years to come.

China is in the midst of one of the most serious power shortages in a decade, with 22 provinces employing varying degrees of load-shedding measures. The large-scale power crunch that ensued has raised the alarm to both government authorities and businesses. For a market that has largely maintained power supply security during two decades of robust growth, it is astonishing to observe the scale of this current power shortage.
