Through two months’ coordination with the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), the chamber will invite Ms. Tong Li, Deputy Director of MEP’s Department of Pollutants Discharge Permit, who is in charge of standards and implementation of China’s pollutants discharge permit policy, to interpret relevant policies and regulations and introduce the status quos of implementation along with future plans, followed by the roundtable discussion with our members.

The year 2016 was marked by extraordinary political and economy uncertainty and a corresponding effect on cross-border deal activity. According to Thomson Reuters, global M&A activity totaled USD 3.7 trillion dollars in 2016. Record levels of outbound M&A from Chinese buyers into European and US assets accounted for a large chunk of this.

The automotive industry is going through major changes in the coming years. Disruptive technology will have their roles in shaping this industry. China’s automotive industry and structures are young and much more flexible compared to mature markets. Chinese executives are not bound in ‘old’ structures and believe in change and therefore much more in the impact to all segments. In addition, better connectivity enables them to co-ordinate established trends such as car-sharing and pooling schemes, which make better use of space in densely populated areas. As urbanization continues and as the Chinese economy and car sales experience slower growth, customer data could also become more lucrative than vehicle sales.
