In their recently released report The Fat Tech Dragon: Baseline Trends in China’s Innovation Drive, the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) have sought to make a quantitative assessment of where China stands in terms of innovation. In doing so they have assessed a wide range of macro-economic indicators; going beyond simply measuring R&D as a percentage of GDP, to paint a broader picture of the China innovation, its links to industrial policy, and its implications for companies; both Chinese and multinational.
