The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is pleased to invite you to the second edition of our public affairs seminar, Capital Beat, on 15th November 2013, at the Beijing Marriott Hotel Northeast. This Capital Beat seminar will have leading China experts to discuss the results of China’s Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee and its implications on international businesses operating in China.
China’s Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, which draws on the politburo of the Chinese Communist Party, is from 9th November to 12th November. At this critical and highly influential meeting the top 376 members of China’s Communist Party will gather in Beijing to lay out a broad direction for economic policy over the next decade.
Previous third plenums have been pivotal. Deng Xiaoping utilised the 1978 plenum to consolidate China’s post-Mao agricultural reforms. Jiang Zemin, his successor, used the 1993 third plenum to lock in the market reforms that culminated in China’s accession to the World Trade Organisation. Now the new Chinese administration is expected to follow their predecessors and implement a reformist agenda that tackles major issues such as lowering market barriers to attract investors and boost competition within the nation.
The European Chamber of Commerce has confirmed knowledgeable and influential experts such as Dr David Ellis, Political Counsellor, Embassy of the United Kingdom, Mr Jian Zhang, Associate Professor, School of Government, Peking University, and Mr. David Kelly, Research Director, China Policy to comment on and evaluate the results that will have been discussed at the Third Plenary Session. This high-level gathering will be of significant use to decision makers and key executives that need a deeper understanding of the implications of China’s Third Plenary Session and how it will impact their businesses and their futures in China.
