The Environment Working Group of the European Chamber, PRD Chapter invites Members to participate in the working level government meeting with Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission (DRC).
Chinese government launched its first pilot carbon trading scheme in Shenzhen on July, 2013. The scheme aims to cover 635 carbon-intensive companies in the city. It’s also requiring them to hold sufficient tradable carbon allowances to meet government-imposed emission targets. Analysts say it marks an important step for China in its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. Shenzhen has become the first city in China to introduce a mandatory emissions trading scheme.
With aim to strengthen the dialogue between European companies operating in PRD and the local government, this meeting expect to bring together officials from Shenzhen Reform and Development Commission who will engage with member companies in a discussion over the implementation of the pilot carbon trading scheme.
Members companies are encouraged to submit questions and issues to be raised to the government during the meeting. All contributions will be consolidated and addressed on behalf of the European Chamber with individual comments remaining anonymous. Please submit your inquiry to Ms. Anna Rudawska, Deputy Manager at arudawska@europeanchamber.com.cn
