16:30 – 17:00 China Healthcare Reform - challenges and opportunities for MNC pharma and device companies. By Mr. Clement Ngai, Partner of Baker & McKenzie Shanghai Office
Almost 3 years since the Chinese government announced the ambitious healthcare reform plan in 2009, there have been many changes in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector. The last few years have not been particularly for domestic pharmaceutical companies. Still the industry as whole manages a year-over-year growth of around 30% in 2011. In addition, the pharmaceutical industry is one of the 7 key industries in China's 12th Five-Year Plan. The Five-Year Plan has lofty growth targets as well as high expectation on drug quality standards. At the same time, drug pricing has been under enormous pressure due to cost containment measures from the government. What do all these means for pharma companies in China?
