About Europe – China Year of Youth
The year 2011 is designated as the Europe – China Year of Youth with the goal to "further promote and deepen the partnership between Europe and China". At the 13th China-EU Summit Joint Press Communiqué, EU and Chinese leaders Barroso, Van Rompuy and Wen Jiabao expressed their commitment to give full support to the China – EU Year of Youth, noting its main objectives to promote intercultural dialogue and strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and European youth.
EU-China Year of Youth 2011 includes a series of public diplomacy and youth mobilization activities initiated by Chinese and EU governments. Emphasis is placed on youth interaction, public education and encouraging Chinese and European young people to gain better knowledge about each other. As one of the major actions of the Year of Youth, publicity programs through media and other communication tools will be launched aiming at reaching out and engaging young people at a wide range and achieving extensive and positive impacts. There are altogether around 20 events such as TV debates, lectures, exhibitions, on-line contests and shows, images promotion etc. For more information, go to the website of the EU-China Year of Youth: www.2011y.net. The private sector is encouraged to participate in these events.
