The European Chamber is delighted to invite you to the launch of an authoritative study,Overcapacity in China - Causes, Impacts and Recommendations, written in partnership with Roland Berger Strategy Consultants Greater China.
Overcapacity is a blight on China’s industrial landscape, affecting dozens of industries and wreaking far-reaching damage on the global economy in general, and China’s economic growth in particular. The extent and influence of this problem have dramatically increased following the economic crisis, which has seen demand in the US and Europe for China’s exports plummeting at the very same time that the Chinese government is pumping billions into new heavy industry factories under the auspices of the four-trillion yuan stimulus package.
As a result of this overcapacity, China’s economic growth is being hampered by industrial inefficiencies, resource wastage and the growing threat of non-performing loans, while trade tensions with major trading partners grow ever more fractious.
Drawing on the knowledge and experience of the members of the European Chamber, European companies active in various industries across China, the study examines the reasons for, and impact of overcapacity in the most severely affected six industries in China. The Study also offers China’s policy-makers more than 30 recommendations on how this urgent problem can be brought under control.
