Climate change is a serious concerning problem, caused primarily by the carbon dioxide released from burning fossil fuels like oil, coal, and gas. But there are things we can do about it - choosing to go carbon neutral. From bankers to builders, more companies in diverse industries are announcing plans to go carbon neutral. The idea of this concept is that the sum of all greenhouse gases that you put into and take out of the atmosphere should balance out to zero.
A carbon-neutral version of product or service is better for the environment than its carbon-producing equivalent. Airlines, energy companies and event management companies were early movers into carbon neutrality, allowing their customers to add a small donation to their ticket to offset their individual carbon emissions. Since then the practice has been spreading further and faster to construction, agricultural sectors, and technology giants.
During the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly on 15th September 2020, President Xi Jinping pledged that China would reach its peak emissions ahead of its 2030 goal and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Xi called on all countries to seize the historic opportunities presented by the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, to achieve a green economy of the world economy in the post-COVID era and thus create a powerful force driving sustainable development.
The meeting is delighted to invite Director Liu Yang, Division of Strategic Research and Coordination, Department of Climate Change, MEE to brief the latest policies and potential roadmap on Carbon Neutral Mission in China. Also, European multinational companies will share their facing challenges and best practices as solutions for reducing carbon emission and achieving sustainable development.
