The Compliance & Business Ethic Working Group is glad to invite you to the next joint Working Group meeting on data protection compliance, at the European Chamber Shanghai Office on Monday, 11th March 2018, 13:45-16:00.
To ensure data security and safeguard individual privacy, governments around the world are putting in place increasingly rigorous requirements. China’s Personal Information Protection Specification took effect on May 1st 2018 providing the first concrete guidelines on the data protection provisions outlined under China’s Cybersecurity Law (CSL). On May 25th, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force, which is a set of data protection rules for all companies operating in the EU, regardless of where they are based. These regulations pose stiff challenges for companies to ensure compliance.
How to comply with the new requirements given the discrepancies that exist between the EU and Chinese rules? What are the key differences between CSL and GDPR in terms of data collection, processing and cross-border transfer? Do companies need a Data Protection Officer in China? Is consent a panacea? In the next joint Working Group Meeting, the European Chamber is delighted to welcome Jing Wang, Senior Counsel at Rui Bai Law Firm, member firm of the PwC Network and Frake Chen, Senior Technical Manager at SGS, to share their analysis and insights of data protection compliance in China with our members.
