Counterfeits: a global threat needs global answers. The WTO estimates the share of counterfeits at the total global trade volume of 5% to 7%. 80% of the profits of counterfeited exports from China is created outside the country. An estimated 750,000 labor in the global automotive industry alone is lost due to counterfeiting. There are many different methods for corporations to fight against trade mark infringements, but essential is an overall strategy with all involved stakeholders participating, addressing authorities with key messages, alerting the employees and much more.

The European Chamber is delighted to invite you to join the next Auto Components Working Group Meeting: Changing Face of the Automotive Industry at 09:30-11:00, 6 July 2016 at the European Chamber Shanghai Office.

The automotive industry is going through major changes in the coming years. Disruptive technology will have their roles in shaping this industry. China’s automotive industry and structures are young and much more flexible compared to mature markets. Chinese executives are not bound in ‘old’ structures and believe in change and therefore much more in the impact to all segments. In addition, better connectivity enables them to co-ordinate established trends such as car-sharing and pooling schemes, which make better use of space in densely populated areas. As urbanization continues and as the Chinese economy and car sales experience slower growth, customer data could also become more lucrative than vehicle sales.
