Discuss Shanghai’s air pollution emergency response measures with the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau. It will take place at the European Chamber on Wednesday, 19th February, 4pm-6pm, with registrations beginning at 3:30pm.
Shanghai experienced record levels of air pollution in December 2013, as the air quality index surged past 300 to reach severe levels, more than 25 times the safe limit set by the World Health Organisation. Following this episode, on 15th January 2014, the Shanghai Municipal Government implemented the city’s own emergency response system to deal with air pollution that would see schools, factories and construction sites closed down, when the air reaches toxic levels. The plan included the adoption of a local four-tier colour alert system for air pollution.
At this event, we welcome our guest speaker, Ms. Huang Lei, Section Chief, Pollution Prevention and Control Division, at the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, who is in charge of the implementation of the air pollution emergency response measures in Shanghai, to provide further insight on this issue.
