Adding another milestone to the growing ecosystem of EU sustainability regulation, the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive ("CSDDD") entered into force on 25th July 2024. This substantial piece of legislation is designed to mandate certain large EU and non-EU companies operating in the EU to conduct risk-based human rights and environmental due diligence.
Member states are required to transpose the CSDDD into their national legislation within two years from this date. Companies will then have an additional year to align with requirements. The phased implementation of the Directive suggests the first group of in-scope companies’ compliance efforts may commence in 2027.
Additionally, CSDDD will indirectly impact numerous SMEs who are suppliers to these larger in-scope companies as a result of the trickle-down effect.
How should companies prepare? Join us to have your questions answered:
- Which types of companies does the CSDDD apply to?
- What are the core obligations of the companies?
- How does the CSDDD define the ‘chain of activities’, “chain of activities” vs “value chain”?
- What is the transition plan for climate change mitigation?
- What are the consequences for non-compliance?
- What scrutiny will the SMEs be subject to as the CSDDD requirements are cascaded down the value chain?
- How does the CSDDD interact with other laws, such as CSRD, the Deforestation Regulation, the Batteries Regulation?
- What are the key steps to prepare for the CSDDD?
- What your business should know about supply chain mapping
