The key to a multinational company’s success in China is the ability to ‘translate’ global strategy into local performance: something much easier said than done. Foreign and Chinese managers often get stuck between two unproductive choices: sounding ‘too foreign’ for Chinese clients, suppliers and colleagues, or sounding ‘too Chinese’ for senior management at headquarters. The resulting gap in communication, decision-making and attitude affects everyone on both sides, whether they are in touch with each other or only connected indirectly. Of course, not all multinational firms handle the challenge equally: some suffer, some struggle and some succeed.
Join this half-day workshop with intercultural leadership consultant Gabor Holch to learn from worst and best practices, and unlock challenging cases from him and fellow participants.
Learn, discuss and experience:
- An easy-to-learn, practical behavioural method to solve HQ-China misalignments
- Three real China-HQ case studies from Gabor, and who knows how many more from participants
- Understanding cultural pressure and why it is so hard to control our reaction to it
- Research on the three pillars of Chinese leadership, and their strangeness to foreigners
- A new tool to map national and corporate cultures, and match them with people’s natural style
- Creative small-group discussions on solutions fitting to different leadership styles
- A video message from Steve Jobs’s former coach to encourage our future work
