Winter Sports Injury and Influenza Prevention Seminar

In the post-pandemic era, respiratory infectious diseases like influenza, mycoplasma pneumoniae, and adenovirus have become prevalent topics of concern, with effective protection being a widely discussed issue. Additionally, the surge in public interest in fitness has led to an increase in sports-related injuries in clinical settings.

On January 14th, 2024, the " Winter Sports Injury and Influenza Prevention" health-themed seminar, jointly organized by the European Chamber Shenyang Chapter (referred to as "Shenyang Chapter"), and Shenyang Jingshen Hospital, was held at the hospital's academic hall.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Mr. Jingxin Dai, General Manager of Shenyang Jingshen Hospital, and Mr. Yuanfang Fei, the Administrative Dean, among other hospital leaders. Mr. Leo Liu, Office Manager of the Shenyang Chapter, hosted the seminar, introducing its background. Following Jingxin’s opening remarks, he provided an overview of Jingshen Hospital and expressed eagerness for deepening collaboration with Shenyang Chapter and its member companies.

Prof. Qiwei Chen, Head of Pediatrics at Jingshen Hospital, first addressed various concerns about children's pneumonia, including types, typical symptoms, transmission methods, and treatment and prevention strategies. She emphasized that pneumonia is a leading cause of death in children and that the common antibiotics are only effective against specific types of pneumonia, underlining the importance of targeted treatment. Prof. Chen elaborated on the symptoms of mycoplasma pneumoniae and the differences in treatment for viral and bacterial infections, stressing the long-term effects of airway damage and allergies in some children.

She also highlighted often-overlooked extrapulmonary complications and advised parents on preventive measures such as maintaining personal hygiene, regular hand washing, ensuring indoor ventilation, actively preventing chronic diseases like anemia and rickets, and avoiding passive smoking to enhance children's physique. She reassured parents about managing the illness under professional guidance.

Dr. Leiming Li, Head of the Sports Medicine Department at Jingshen Hospital, discussed the prevention and management of sports injuries and degenerative joint diseases, emphasizing the causes and clinical manifestations of injuries in joints such as the shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, and elbow.

Dr. Li underscored the importance of adequate warm-up exercises, adherence to sports rules, and understanding physiological characteristics to prevent injuries. He detailed the benefits of pre-exercise warm-ups and common misconceptions in on-site treatment of sports injuries, offering practical advice on ceasing activity, applying cold, simple bandaging, and seeking medical assistance. Dr. Li also covered the dangers of excessive exercise and the "2-hour rule" for determining overexertion, along with the irreversibility of joint arthritis and injuries and the daily maintenance of various joints.

During the interactive session, attendees engaged in in-depth discussions with the experts, gaining valuable insights from their clinical experiences.

The event concluded with a guided tour of Jing Shen Hospital's Health Management Center, International Outpatient Department, and inpatient wards, where attendees gained a deeper understanding and high appreciation of the hospital's facilities and service quality.
