IP Friendly Awards and Conference on IPR, Innovation and Development

On Wednesday afternoon the EU Chamber hosted our inaugural IP Friendly Awards to recognize Chinese Provinces and Municipalities who had excelled in IP enforcement.

The awards ceremony took place against the backdrop of a larger full day Conference on IPR, Innovation and Development. The European Chamber was honored to welcome, among others, Mr Francisco Perez Canado, Head of Trade Section at the EU Delegation, and  Mr Chen Fuli, Deputy Director General, Department of Treaty and Law, MOFCOM, to deliver key note speeches. DDG Chen spoke passionately about the developments China has made in the field of IP and commended the European Chamber on this constructive initiative.

As a basis for the awards, the European Chamber’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Working Group defined five award categories: Transparency, Efficiency, Cooperation, Deterrence and Fairness. Based on case studies submitted by our member companies, winners were chosen. These winning regions included: Zhejiang, Guangdong, Shandong, Shanghai, Tianjin and Beijing. The Chamber was delighted to welcome representatives from these provinces to receive their awards in front of our honored guests, and both foreign and domestic media.

During the Conference SAP Senior Vice President, Li Ruicheng, outlined his company's vision for innovation and highlighted collaborative partnership run with Chinese companies, institutes and government. Before breaking for lunch, EU Chamber Vice President, Mats Harborn led an esteemed panel in a spirited debate on top down vs. bottom up innovation.  In the afternoon, DDG Chen’s key note speech was followed with an extended IP specific session, which included presentations on France’s experience with E-commerce piracy, New Tends in China IPR, and the relationship between IP and Anti-Monopoly.
