PRD Chapter Met Party Secretary of Guangdong

On the 30th May, a meeting was held between Mr Hu Chunhua, the Party Secretary of Guangdong Province, member of Politburo of the central committee of the communist Party of China (CPC), and Mr Markus Ederer, EU Ambassador to China, during which the European Chamber PRD Chapter General Manager, Francine Hadjisotiriou, was also present.

The other members of the Chinese Government were:
Xu Shaohua, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Guangdong Committee, Executive Vice Governor
Liu Kewei, Deputy Secretary General of CPC Guangdong Committee
Guo Yuanqiang , Director general of Guangdong Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation
Fu Lang, Director General of Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office

Representing the EU consulates in Guangzhou, and acting as EU Presidency: Mr Constantin Cakioussis, Greek General Consul in Guangzhou

And from the EU Delegation to China:
Mr Charles Parton from the Political Affairs Section, Mr William Fingleton, Press Officer and Thomas Peart, interpreter.

This meeting demonstrates a deepening of EU-China cooperation with emphasis placed on the interconnectedness of the economies of the EU and China. Acknowledgement of Guangdong as an innovation hub was made due to the surge in pilot programmes in the region

During the meeting, the EU Ambassador to China highlighted the important role of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and encouraged the provincial authorities to further strengthen the existing relationship and cooperation

The EU Ambassador handed over a copy of the Position Paper 2012/2013 to the Party Secretary of Guangdong.
