Chamber Presented the South China Position Paper to Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce

Deputy Director-General (DG) Mr. Wu Shangwei of Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce led a small delegation to welcome the European Chamber South Chapter General Manager Mrs. Francine Hadjisotiriou on June 11. Mrs. Hadjisotiriou presented the main recommendations of the newly published South China Position Paper (SC PP) to deputy DG Wu.

Wu expressed gratitude to the Chamber for publishing the Paper and connecting the European companies with the Chinese governments. He said Guangzhou will become a pioneer in implementing President Xi’s promise on further open the market, and that Guangzhou vows to continuously improve the business environment and facilitate administrative procedure. He praised that the SC PP is pragmatic and helpful to improve their work. And he proposed the Chamber to do a Paper specifically for Guangzhou City in order to have more targeted and implementable recommendations. He also suggested monthly work meetings with the Chamber.

During the meeting, Wu also briefed the Chamber representative on the Greater Bay Area (GBA) current work status. He mentioned that the hard infrastructure connection including the Shenzhen-Zhongshan channel, Nansha bridge, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hongkong high speed train and Hongkong-Macau-Zhuhai Bridge are already in use or being built. From the ‘soft infrastructure’ side, ports connecting the Hongkong, Guangdong and Macau are being built to facilitate the movement of goods, people and capital. Wu also suggested three ways for Chamber members to better understand the GBA policies, including written inquiry, organizing Q&A sessions and connecting the Chamber with the GBA office.
