On June 2nd 2010, the Chamber had a meeting with European Delegation on disusing the Trade and Investment regulations for foreign business in China.

Surveillance of national trade policies is a fundamentally important activity running throughout the work of the WTO. At the centre of this work is the Trade Policy Review Mechanism (TPRM). All WTO members are reviewed, the frequency of each country’s review varying according to its share of world trade. China’s second Trade Policy Review took place the first week of June 2010, with the first and previous one taking place in May 2008.

The Chamber had the opportunity to submit comments to the EU Delegation for inclusion in the EU Commission response to China’s answers to its Trade Policy Review enquiries. Chamber comments focused on policies creating de facto or de jure technical barriers to trade, including: access to standardisation, mandatory certification –including China Compulsory Certification, Non-notification to WTO TBT (Technical Barriers to Trade) Committee of policies affecting trade, discrimination in the area of information security products, as well as government procurement.
