European Chamber Visit to China Institutes for Contemporary International Relations
A European Chamber delegation with President Joerg Wuttke, Secretary General Dirk Moens and Advisory Council Members met with the President of China Institutes for Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) Cui Liru.
This meeting is the Chamber's third visit to a leading Chinese think tank since the publication of the 2008/2009 Position Paper. We met in February with the Secretary General of China Development Research Foundation Lu Mai and Deputy Secretary General Min Tang as well as with Fan Gang the Director of the National Economic Research Institute (NERI) in March this year.
These meetings are a unique opportunity to increase the Position Paper’s audience and aim at exchanging views on the EU-China trade relationship from a strategic high level perspective.
The CICIR was founded in 1980 and has become a leading think tank with 150 research professors. CICIR directs its research towards global strategic issues in relation with other countries.
At this meeting we had a constructive dialogue on the global financial crisis and the danger of protectionism, EU-CHINA relations, the WTO dispute resolution mechanism, on how to enhance China’s development shift towards a domestic driven economy and on the need to develop sustainable green industries.
