Dear Working Group member,
On 16 July 2018, in the context of the EU-China Summit, the EU and China’s released a joint statement to reiterate their commitments under the Paris agreement and step up their cooperation to enhance its implementation.
The collaboration on climate change and clean energy aims to strengthen the bilateral relation in various areas, i.e., long-term low greenhouse gas emission development strategies, emissions trading, energy efficiency, clean energy, low emission transport, low-carbon cities cooperation, climate-related technology cooperation, investment in climate and clean energy projects and cooperation with other developing countries.
In this context, European companies could play a key role by supporting the parties in the policy making process, developing strategies and provide sound solutions. Dr. QI Yue, Research fellow at International Cooperation Department, the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC) will join us to discuss the opportunities and perspective on climate change cooperation between EU and China. In addition, Mr Chai Qimin, Director of the International Cooperation Department, National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NDRC) will also join the discussion.
About Dr. QI Yue
Research fellow, International Cooperation Department, the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC)
Currently, Dr. Qi serves as delegate of Chinese delegation to the UNFCCC negotiations, and her research work mainly focuses on MRV of climate actions, south-south cooperation strategies, climate risks for investors, global climate governance regime, etc.
About Mr Chai Qimin
Director of International Cooperation Department in National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation, National Development and Reform Commission, Chai Qimin currently serves as the delegate of Chinese Government Delegation of UN Climate Negotiations, and advisor of local governments for Low Carbon City. His professional activities and publications focus on green finance and investment, new energy and climate change economics, carbon factor and market theory, climate equity and security integrated assessment.
