Mr. Rory Farquhar Thomson

Mr. Rory Farquhar Thomson
Rory Farquhar Thomson is currently Head of Global Industries and Foreign Corporates for Intesa Sanpaolo SpA Shanghai Branch. After 10 years in China and previously 20 years in London he has gained a solid experience in helping small medium and large companies in meeting their financing needs.
With a strong background in credit and marketing Rory also has significant experience in trade finance and during his time in China has learned to speak Mandarin and gained a good knowledge of local banking regulations in China.
There is no key to success in this country however maintaining a British discipline in business whilst respecting the local culture and values certainly helps. Guanxi are of course important here, but in no way can good guanxi replace basic credit discipline and knowing your customer.
As well as his role in the Bank, Rory served as Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai from 2011 to 2013 and is currently Chairman of their Financial Services focus group.
Outside his professional interests Rory plays trumpet in a local jazz band and recently held an exhibition of his oil paintings in Pudong.
