China's annual investment in Europe tripled last year to €7.4 billion, while the number of deals with a value of more than €800,000 doubled from less than 50 to almost 100 in 2010 and 2011. Chinese outbound global investment is estimated to reach over €1.6 trillion by 2020.
中国去年在欧洲直接投资额达74亿欧元,比前两年翻了三番。而在2011年,超过80万的投资项目也从2010年的50宗,成倍增长到约100宗。 预计到2020年,中国对外直接投资总额将达到1.6万亿。
On Thursday 28th June the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China will host a full-day conference on Chinese Investment in Europe at the Hilton Beijing Hotel. Over 200 representatives from companies with investment interests in Europe will be present as well as senior representatives from the European Union, European Member States and Chinese government.

During this conference leading European companies will provide strategic advice, in-depth analysis of opportunities and challenges for Chinese investors in Europe as well as a wide presentation of all investment opportunities available for them in the largest economic area of the world: the European Union.
在此系列会议中,多家处于行业领先地位的欧洲公司将会对有意在欧洲投资的中国公司提供战略性建议,深度分析并全面剖析中国投资者在欧洲遇到的机遇与挑战。
During this conference attendees will also have the chance to get a macro perspective of the investment outlook in Europe, including best practice sharing with Chinese companies currently holding investment in Europe, an overview of the opportunities that Europe offers to Chinese companies, the financing opportunities available in Europe and the current as well as a future economic outlook on the European Union.

Annika Melander, head of the Economic and Financial Section at the Delegation of EU to China, joined the European Commission in 1996. She has been working as the economic counsellor at the EU Delegation to China since Sep. 2010, where she is heading the economic and financial affairs section. Before moving to the East, Annika was responsible for the Commission's macroeconomic forecasts for the euro-area and EU economies for the past 5 years as a Head of Unit for the 'economic situation and forecasts' within the DG for economic and financial affairs at the EU Commission in Brussels. Following studies in economics at the Wirtschaftsuniversität in Vienna and at Uppsala University, Annika participated in one-year long trainee programme with a focus on efficiency control of central government agencies at the National Audit Bureau (Riksrevisionsverket).

Mr. Andre Loesekrug-Pietri
André Loesekrug-Pietri, French-German, held leadership positions in private equity, government, industry and as an entrepreneur. Starting as assistant to the CEO of Aerospatiale-Airbus, he then spent 15 years in private equity and venture capital, including 10 years with China, investing in European companies with global ambitions. In 2017, he paused from the private sector to become Special Advisor to the French Minister of Defence, responsible in particular for European Defence policy as well as technology and innovation. He is currently speaker of the Joint European Disruptive Initiative (JEDI), aiming to accelerate Europe’s leadership in disruptive innovations. Graduate from HEC and from Harvard Kennedy School, he attended Sup-Aero aerospace engineering school. He has been named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum (Davos) and is member of the International Advisory Board of Beijing Jiaotong University.

Thomas is the head of Gide’s Beijing office. With more than a decade of legal experience in international M&A transactions, his practice focuses on foreign direct investments, M&A, divestitures, joint ventures, and infrastructure/energy projects in Greater China. His recent work includes advising an Renault on its RMB 11 billion new car manufacturing JV with Dongfeng Motor Corporation in China, advising Capgemini on its first foray into China with its acquisition of Praxis Technologies, assisting Crédit Agricole on the USD 1.25 billion sale of CLSA to CITIC Securities, and advising Groupama on establishing an insurance joint venture with Aviation Industry Corporation of China. In addition, he assisted Soluxe International, a subsidiary of China Huayou Group Corporation (owned by CNPC), on a large construction and development project in the Republic of Chad, and is currently advising several Chinese companies and institutions on outbound transactions in both Europe and Africa.

Jörg Wuttke is Vice President and Chief Representative of BASF China, based in Beijing. Since joining BASF in 1997, Mr. Wuttke has been responsible for helping guide the company’s investment strategies for China, negotiation of large projects and government relations.
Previous to joining BASF, Mr. Wuttke worked with ABB for 11 years; in fact his first professional encounter with China was in 1988 as the Finance and Administration Manager of ABB Beijing. In 1990, he returned to Germany as Sales Manager of ABB Power Plants Division, responsible for gas turbine sales to Africa and Russia. In 1993, he became Chief Representative ABB China in Shanghai and in 1994 moved to the President's Office of ABB China in Beijing, where he was responsible for the development and financing of large projects.
From 2001 to 2004 Mr. Wuttke was the Chairman of the German Chamber of Commerce in China. From 2007 to 2010, 2014 to 2017, and since May 2019 again he is the President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China
From 2011 to 2019, Mr. Wuttke was Chairman of the BIAC China Task Force of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC), a Paris based body of major business associations that lobbies the OECD.
From 2013 to 2016, and again since 2019 Mr. Wuttke is Vice Chairman of the CPCIF International Cooperation Committee, a group representing Multinational Companies in China’s Chemical Association.
Since its establishment in 2013, Mr. Wuttke is member of the Advisory Board of Germany’s foremost Think Tank on China, Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), in Berlin.
In January 2019 Mr. Wuttke joined the International Board of the Stars Foundation, in Switzerland. stars - for Leaders of the Next Generation.

H. E. Dr. Markus Ederer, Ambassador-Head of Delegation of the European Union to the People's Republic of China and Mongolia
Markus Ederer was born in Germany in 1957. He graduated in Law at the University of Passau. Since January 2011, Markus Ederer has been based in Beijing as Ambassador-Head of Delegation of the European Union's Delegation to China and Mongolia. From December 2005 to December 2010, he was the Head of Policy Planning in the German Federal Foreign Office. His career in the German Foreign Office started in 1990 when he was the Personal Secretary to Minister of State Helmut Schäfer.
He then went on to Moscow where he served in the Economic Department of the German Embassy. In 1993 he returned to Germany where he served in the Press Department and later became Deputy Spokesman for the German Foreign Office. In 1999 he moved to Brussels where he took up the post of Head of Cabinet of the Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe.
In April 2002 he became the Director of Political/Economic Assessment in the Federal Intelligence Service in Germany. Markus Ederer holds a Doctoral Degree in International Law (University of Passau) and a Master of Laws degree (University of Miami).

Born in Vicenza, Italy in 1966. Graduated at Venice Ca’ Foscari University in Oriental Studies with highest honors, he has permanently lived and worked in China for more than 30 years since late 80’s before moving to Brussels in early 2020. He has been recently appointed Vice President – Head of EU of Fincantieri for which he manages the Brussels Office since December 2019. Besides carrying out public affairs duties for Fincantieri at the European Institutions and NATO, he is active in a number of organizations and working groups, among them SEA Europe, SEA Naval, Business Europe, Hydrogen Europe, ASD and Business at OECD. From January 2017 to early 2020, he has held the position of Chairman of Fincantieri China. From 2005 to 2016 he has been Head of China Region of Leonardo Spa (previously Finmeccanica), holding the position of Vice President – Global Sales Coordination. He has also held various positions in the BoD of Finmeccanica invested ventures in China. From 2010 to 2016 he has been CEO of Ansaldo Railways Systems in China. He holds the honorary title of President Emeritus of European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC) after serving from 2011 to 2014 as President elected and since January 2020 represents the EUCCC in Brussels. Since April 2022 he is chairing the Maritime Chamber of the EC Renewable and Low Carbon Fuels Industry Value Chain Alliance. In May 2022 he has been elected Chairman of SEA Naval, the permanent naval shipyards group of companies at SEA Europe. In January 2020, he has also been nominated Chairman of the Paris based China Expert Group under Business at OECD (BIAC). From 2017 to 2020 he has been Chairman of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, position that he already held from 2002 to 2010. He has been Member of the Board of the Association of Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad. He has been conferred the Italian Presidential Knighthood honor of “Cavaliere Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana” as well as of “Master of Labor”. Among other awards, the “Cafoscarino in the World 2010” prize and the “Ca’ Foscari University Ambassador in the World prize 2019” by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, as well as the “Capital Elite 2011” prize by the Italy-China Foundation, as the Italian Manager with the greatest responsibility in China.
He is member of the Scientific Committee of "Mondo Cinese" the Italian review on China studies. He has published a book on the geo-political environment in China (“Tra Poco la Cina”, Bollati Boringhieri). He frequently contributes articles to various geo political publications.

.Thilo Hanemann is a Director at Rhodium Group and leads the firm’s work on global trade and investment. Thilo supports the investment management, strategic planning, and policy analysis requirements of RHG clients within his fields of expertise. He is also a Senior Policy Fellow at the Mercator Institute for China Studies, Europe’s biggest China think tank, located in Berlin. Thilo’s research focuses on new trends in global trade and capital flows, related policy developments, and the political and commercial dynamics of specific transactions. One of his areas of expertise is the rise of emerging economies as global investors, and the implications for host economies and the global economy. His most recent work focuses on the evolution of China’s international investment position, and the economic and policy implications of this new trend.
