The pilot scheme on work permits for foreigners was introduced in October 2016 and will be implemented nationwide in April 2017. European Chamber, in cooperation with the German Chamber of Commerce, French Chamber and Swiss Chamber cordially invites you to a briefing on the new regulations for foreigners working permit on April 7.

The scheme will classify workers into three categories and aims to streamline work permit applications for foreign workers. The Section Chief of the Beijing Municipal Center of Foreign Experts Affairs, Mr. Rong Duan, will inform about the new regulations and attendees will have the opportunity to consult with governmental officials face to face during the Q&A session.

R&D Working Group 2017 Kick-off Meeting and Chair Elections

The next R&D Working Group meeting is scheduled on Friday 7th April at PwC Innovation Centre in Shanghai where we will hold the 2017-2018 IPR Working Group Chairs elections. We will also be kicking off the 2017/18 R&D Position Paper (PP) discussion. Therefore we strongly encourage you all to attend this meeting and have your say in our lobbying priorities, strategy and direction of the group for the year to come.

On 7th November, 2016, the Chinese authorities passed a new Cybersecurity Law that will have significant ramifications for the operations of European Business when it comes in force on June 1st this year. For one, existing requirements for localizing their storage of data on servers located within Chinese territory will be further strengthened. Network operators will also be required to provide ‘technical support’ for national security and law enforcement, which may include pressure to compromise their encryption.
