The Joint Declaration on the EU-China Partnership on Urbanisation signed by leaders of the European Union and P.R China in 2012 opened a new chapter of EU-China urbanisation cooperation. The past five years have witnessed wider, deeper and more concrete cooperation between the two sides. As 2017 marks the fifth anniversary of the EU-China Partnership on Urbanisation, the 2017 EU-China Forum on Sustainable Urban Development & Inception Meeting of 100 Pairing Cities/Programs are to take place in Putian City, Fujian Province, China on 19-21 March, 2017, organised by China Center for Urban Development (CCUD) under the guidance of China National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), together with EUCCC, EUROCITIES and JPI Urban Europe.

The report provides a detailed examination of the focus and goals of the initiative for upgrading China’s industrial base and moving to the forefront in ten industries that the Chinese authorities have identified as future drivers of the economy. It also evaluates the initiative’s ramifications for European business, both in China, Europe and third-country markets.
