European Chamber President Meets with Deputy Director-General of Guangdong Department of Commerce

On September 28, 2023, President Jens Eskelund of the European Chamber led a delegation, including Klaus Zenkel, Chairman of the European Chamber South China Chapter Board, Joanna Ye, Board Member of the European Chamber South China Chapter, representatives from the Advisory Council and local members, for an exclusive dialogue with Mr. Zhu Xiaojun, Deputy Director-General of the Guangdong Department of Commerce.

During the meeting, President Jens Eskelund provided an overview of the business confidence of European Union (EU) companies operating in Guangdong Province. He also discussed recent developments in investment and trade between the EU and China. Furthermore, President Eskelund presented the European Business in China Position Paper for 2023/2024, which emphasizes the role of European companies in the Chinese economy and offers key recommendations for the government.

These recommendations underscore the importance of empowering market forces to enhance productivity, improving communication channels, and optimizing decision-making processes. These measures are intended to strengthen cooperation between China and European businesses, bolster business confidence, and facilitate mutual development across various sectors.

Mr Zhu expressed his gratitude to President Eskelund and the delegation for sharing valuable insights and reports. He acknowledged the suggestions put forward by the European Chamber and affirmed Guangdong's commitment to enhancing the local business environment and further attracting foreign trade and investment. He also extended an invitation to the president and the whole delegation to join the Greater Bay Area International Promotional Conference in Guangzhou on 8th November.
