European Wood
European Wood is a cooperation effort between the national wood promotion organizations in Austria, France, Germany, Norway and Sweden. Head office is in Brussels, and one office in Beijing for China operations.
European Wood promotes comfortable and efficient building systems based on the benefits of using wood and wood products from sustainable forestry. The activities in China involve transferring technology and knowledge to relevant Chinese central Ministries and to appointed expert bodies such as official National Standardization Committees. The objective is to eliminate or relax technical barriers and to develop building codes and standards so that wood can be used in building and construction in China.
We achieve our aims by transferring technology and ideas through conferences, seminars, study tours, handbooks, publicity and by working to exchange experiences and give information for legislation and standards in favour of wood.
European Wood is focused in China on building envelope (partition wall plus wooden roof), hybrid construction (concrete structure combined with timber structure), constructions with engineering wood, such as glulam structures, etc. We have two demo projects in China. One roof with living attic on existing concrete residential building in Beijing, another timber frame wall system for a hotel in Chengdu. More projects will be finalized in the near future.
European Wood acts on a formal mandate from the European umbrella organization for the wood industry, i.e. the European Confederation of Woodworking Industries, CEI-Bois (www.cei-bois.org).
