Presentation of Position Paper to EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson

On 19th September 2007 a delegation from the European Chamber were received by EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson. The delegation, led by the President of the European Chamber Joerg Wuttke, presented Commissioner Mandelson with the European Chamber's European Business in China Position Paper 2007/2008.

The Position Paper highlights the successful progress made by European businesses in China and sets out some of the key challenges European companies face with China's business environment. The comments made in this year's Position Paper reinforces the need for the approach of the EU's Global Europe strategy, which calls for the fulfilment of China's WTO obligations, improvement in the protection of intellectual property rights and the removal of unfair barriers to EU goods and services.

After the meeting, Commissioner Mandelson said: "I believe strongly in nurturing a positive long term relationship with China, and the report from the European Chamber highlights this good relationship. However, I have also taken careful note of the continuing problems that European companies face while doing business in China, the imbalances and lack of openness in many sectors".
