The 5th Transnational Corporations China Forum 2007 - Summit on Transnational Corporations and the Sustainable Development of China co-organised by Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Commerce and Beijing New Century Academy on Transnational Corporations was held in Beijing on 6th February 2007.

High level government officials from authorities including the Ministry of Commerce, international representatives from the United Nations, academics and business leaders gave splendid speeches. Joerg Wuttke, Vice President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China gave a speech on the importance of transnational corporations in China’s economic development. Nearly 400 participants from Chinese and foreign business circles, the academic community and international organisations attended this summit.

This summit provided an opportunity for in-depth exchanges of views and discussions on the positive role of transnational companies in China’s sustainable development. Four consensuses were reached: first, maintain the policy of opening-up; second, encourage foreign direct investment; third, enhance foreign investment quality; fourth, both transnational and domestic companies should make a concerted effort to sustain China’s economic development through corporate social responsibility, thus achieving mutual benefits for both sides.
