European Chamber seminar on Avian Flu

On January 25th, the European Chamber in Shanghai hosted a breakfast seminar entitled "Avian Flu and its Impact on Business". Three panelists contributed to the successful seminar attended by over 50 people. Doctor Jenkins from World Link Medical and Dental Centers explained why the bird flu is a pandemic and what kind of risks it could give rise to. He gave an overview on how the pandemic develops and what measures shall be taken to prevent it.

Mr. Beecher Ashley-Brown from Hewitt presented their recently released survey on how multinational companies are coping with the possible risk of avian flu. He showed whether companies are developing contingency plans and, in case they do, how they plan to face the possible outbreak.

Finally, Mr. Zhang Suhua, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Animal Husbandry Office, delivered a speech focusing on the strategy conceived and implemented by the municipality of Shanghai to keep under control the risk of an avian flu.
The three interesting contributions were followed by a very lively Q&A session where participants asked for further insights into the current situation of the bird influenza in the city of Shanghai.
