On 5th June, Director Dong Yanfei of the Ministry of Water Resources presented the recent findings on, and recommendations to, the water abstraction and discharge permitting system in China.
A comparison was made between the current systems in the UK and China, and a lively discussion followed the presentation. The primary concern of the permitting system is compliance and enforcement, however, as problem of water pollution has had its status elevated on the political agenda, it is expected that implementation of a stream of pilot schemes will be seen in the near future.
