Insight China Summer Session: Top economists discuss China’s recovery
European Chamber, 20th May 2009

More than 150 Chamber members and representatives from the worlds of business, economics and politics attended the second session of Insight China, the European Chamber’s quarterly macroeconomic seminar.

The high-profile panel featured Michael Pettis, Professor at Peking University, Arthur Kroeber, Managing Director of Dragonomics, and Liu Olin, Executive Director of Research Department China International Capital Corporation.

The topic of the discussion was “Is this China’s Moment”, and for close to two hours the experts shared their different views on whether China’s current economic recovery is sustainable in the long term. During the off-the-record debate they also examined China’s rising influence on the global stage in the current economic downturn, the potential role of the yuan as reserve currency, and offered recommendations for businesses on how best to deal with the current financial turmoil.

Lyn Kok, Vice President of the European Chamber, moderated the interactive panel discussion and, afterwards, a lively Q&A session with the audience.

Throughout 2009, the European Chamber aims to bring its members the views of the best economists in China through the Insight China series. The next Insight China seminar is scheduled for September. Visit the event page of the Chamber website for more information:
