The European Chamber’s Shipbuilding Working Group, and Energy Working Group are delighted to invite you to the Joint Working Group Meeting “Offshore Energy Transition” which is to take place on Tuesday 13 October 2020, 16:00-18:00 pm CST.
Register online or email Charlotte Svensson at csvensson@europeanchamber.com.cn before Saturday 10th October, COB. When you register please indicate whether you will attend the meeting in Beijing or Shanghai, or if you will attend online.
Within the growing renewable energy market, production is increasingly moving offshore, both in a move to capture better and more abundant energy resources as well as for social and logistical reasons. Half of the world’s population lives within 60 km from the coastline, making it a natural match for energy supply and demand. Demand for new-build and converted FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) vessels and FLNG (Floating Liquid Natural Gas) facilities have increased due to the declining rate of new onshore oil discoveries to historic low levels and also from technology that enables efficient deepwater oil exploration in unprecedented ocean depths.
Maritime power and renewable energy operations present challenges and opportunities for both European and Chinese maritime companies alike in terms of supplying new innovative solutions for cleaner available fuel for the maritime sector. As vessels carry energy throughout the world, they produce exhaust emissions that have a damaging impact on fragile ecosystems, not to mention the potential risk of damage to the vessel itself that may tragically end in a natural disaster. The European Chamber's Energy Working Group has long advocated for a holistic approach to energy transition in China, and the Shipbuilding Working Group is happy to join this call on finding ways to reduce emissions. Extending the product life cycle of LNG and FPSO vessels is an important factor for the future of the maritime energy sector to deliver on the promise of decarbonisation.
At this meeting, we will hear from two working group members from each working group on their long track record of contributing to the sustainability and increased energy efficiency of ships/floating facilities and expectations of the maritime-energy sector’s post-pandemic future in China.
